FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need experience to join the team?

A: No! You do not need any experience to join. If you are interested in riding for the first time then that is more than possible. CMUET offer lessons every week with our coaches, and IHSA has show levels from beginner to experienced levels.

Q: What riding disciplines are available?

A: We are currently offering a hunt seat team (English) - competing on both the flat and over fences - and a stock team (Western) that competes in reining and horsemanship.

Both disciplines are judged on the riders performance.

Q: Do I need my own horse to join?

A: You do not need your own horse to join the team! Lessons are done with horses provided at the stables. During shows the host school provides horses for the competitors to show.

Q: Do I have to show?

A: No! You can choose to be a non-showing member. You are still able to do lessons and be a part of our team events.

Q: Does it cost money?

A: Yes. As most equestrian people are aware of, riding is an expensive sport. However, we try to make it as affordable as possible for people joining. The expenses that each rider needs to cover is 8 lessons a semester, and showing fees.

Q: Are there any scholarships available?

A: NO! There are not any scholarships available for riders at CMU. We are a club sport, and are therefore not offered any. We are self funded, and receive team support from club sports on campus.
